ASME-CCOEW teamed up with Mozilla Campus Club of CCOEW for the successful launch of Phase 2 of the ASME website. This was part of a project aimed at improving and upgrading the website, following feedback from the ASME Student Section. The event saw enthusiastic student participation, focusing on making the website more user-friendly, optimized, and mobile-friendly.

Several significant improvements were made during Phase 2, including:

  • A new light-themed interface, improving ease of use.
  • A mobile-friendly design, enhancing accessibility.
  • The addition of a Contact Page, allowing direct communication with ASME using an API.
  • Recent ASME events were also added to the site.

To manage the development efficiently, Mozilla Campus Club created a GitHub repository, enabling students to work on specific issues. Through GitHub, students gained experience in open-source collaboration, with all contributions being reviewed and merged in real-time.

The team led the way in managing tasks, reviewing contributions, and ensuring a smooth workflow. Students from Cummins College played a major role in improving the website. They had the chance to:

  • Contribute to a real-world project.
  • Learn about web development, open-source collaboration, and team projects.
  • Meet deadlines and complete their tasks within the given time.

ASME and Mozilla appreciated and recognized all participants for their efforts. Certificates were awarded to all contributors, with special recognition for the top performers.

The event marked the successful completion of Phase 2, but ASME and Mozilla are planning additional features to further improve the website. Both clubs are eager to continue their partnership and involve more students in future projects, ensuring the website stays up-to-date.
